Hoehmes erster “Mediator” entsteht 1968: ein Polyesterkopf, dem der Künstler senderartige Kunststoffschnüre anheftet, um so die Interaktion von innen und außen anzudeuten. Im selben Jahr entdeckt er auch den Damaststoff, vertraut als Bestandteil gepflegter Tischkultur, und setzt ihn in einen neuen Kontext. Dabei spielt er mit dem eingewebten Muster, das er durch zahlreiche künstlerische Eingriffe ergänzt. Gleichzeitig lotet er die Möglichkeiten der Farbe Weiß aus, die ihn zu diesem Zeitpunkt besonders beschäftigt. – Der Stoff leicht vergilbt, sonst in guter Erhaltung.
