Ausgebildet als Schüler Oswald Achenbachs an der Düsseldorfer Akademie, siedelte der Künstler nach Aufenthalten in Paris und Hamburg 1889 nach München über. Nun wurde die oberbayerische Bergwelt eines seiner bevorzugten Themen. – Mit Craquelébildung, vor allem in den pastosen Bereichen.
