Description
Gabrielle d’Estrées (um 1570 – 1599), Duchesse de Beaufort et Verneuil und Marquise de Monceaux, war von 1592 bis 1599 die Favoritin von Heinrich IV. Sie starb kurz vor ihrer anberaumten Hochzeit mit dem französischen König. Die Darstellung nimmt Bezug auf das um 1594 entstandene, berühmte Doppelporträt der Herzogin mit einer ihrer Schwestern im Louvre (Inv. Nr. RF 1937-1). – Leinwand alt doubliert.
