Description
Zunächst ein Schüler Ingres’, folgte Menn dem Lehrer auch, als dieser 1834 nach Rom ging. Bereits dort begann Menn jedoch, frische kleine Landschaftsimpressionen direkt vor der Natur zu malen. Nach der Rückkehr nach Paris suchte er den Kontakt zu den Malern der Schule von Barbizon und schloss Freundschaft mit Camille Corot. Die vorliegende lichterfüllte “paysage intime” ist mit ihrer klaren Struktur charakteristisch für sein Werk, das nicht auf die spektakuläre Ansicht setzt, sondern die Schönheit im eher Unscheinbaren sucht.
