Description
Das letzte Selbstporträt von Renée Sintenis ist eines der drucksvollsten und charakteristischsten. “(…) (Es) wird meist 1945 oder 1944/45 datiert; doch Sintenis modellierte es im Sommer 1944, wovon sie in Briefen berichtet (…). Dieses Porträt erreichte eine große Wirkung. Dass es genau die Zeitstimmung traf, erkennt man daran, dass es als ‚Deutschland nach dem Kriege‘ bezeichnet wurde. Zu seiner Fama trug bei, dass man sich erzählte, das Gipsmodell sei unversehrt aus der zerstörten Werkstatt des Gipsgießers Hertel geboregen worden.” (Berger/Ladwig, S. 134).
