Description

The model for this work is housed in the Detroit Institute of Arts (inv. no. 26.107). Researchers are divided as to which important painter the scene can be attributed to. It may have been designed by Giorgione and then completed by Sebastiano del Piombo and/or Titian after his death in 1510. There is also a lot of mystery surrounding the constellation of three figures: it could be Glauke (also Krëusa), who entered into a relationship with Jason and was ultimately killed by his cheated wife Medea using a poisoned wedding veil.
