Interior of the new palace in Schleissheim

Description

We are here in New Schleißheim Palace, more precisely in the Main Bedroom of Elector Max Emanuel (r. 1679-1726). The walls are decorated with magnificent stucco work and panelling in the Baroque style. The bed alcove is outside the picture. The ceiling design, with its depiction of the sleeping Mars, created by the Venetian Jacopo Amigoni (1723), refers to the builder, who has gone to rest as a battle-weary warrior. The view, revealed by two red velvet curtains gathered to the side, is guided through the enfilade of rooms, with mythological scenes such as Jupiter and Antiope on the supraports and the sleeping boy Cupid in the next room.
