Johann Georg von Dillis

Bather in an idyllic landscape

Description

The blue coloured paper and the “more robust” drawing style are characteristic of Dillis’ work (cf. Barbara Hardtwig, Johann Georg von Dillis. Die Kunst des Privaten, Cologne 2003, cat. no. 83). The present drawing evokes a dreamy idyll, in this respect the reference on the reverse to Salomon Gessner, the main master of the literary and pictorial idyll, makes perfect sense. – A diagonal crease across the entire sheet. Two further lighter creases along the upper corners (on the left only visible on the reverse). In good overall condition.
