Description

Sheet 8 from the series: The Life of the Virgin. Magnificent, black, early print without text on the reverse. With the gap in the outline of the mountain between the wings and with only a small gap in the lower edge. The 1511 edition with Latin text is printed on paper with the same watermark (M. 127) as this print. In the next edition, after the text, a 1 cm gap appears in the bottom margin. This is not visible here. The quality of the present print is comparable to that of a proof, from which it can be concluded that it is probably a rare test proof without text. With a fine border around the margin line. – With a few isolated foxmarks. The corners have been carefully restored due to missing patches. There are inconspicuous, carefully closed tears at the edges, some of which have been retouched. Otherwise in good condition.
