Description

Splendid, marvellously high-contrast and clear lifetime print with a velvety ridge in the gathering of people on the right in the background. The vertical lines in the sky are clearly visible, as required for the early prints. With the straightened line on Peter’s torso and the cloak falling lower over his chest. From the Acts of the Apostles 3, 1-8. This is Rembrandt’s last etching of a religious theme and one of the last etchings he ever made, with a fine margin around the plate edge in places, trimmed to this at the bottom. – Two pale stains at upper right. A carefully closed tear in the centre of the right edge. The upper right corner reinforced on the reverse, otherwise in very good condition in keeping with its age. Very rare in this early printing state and quality!
