Description

Lesser Ury mastered the technique of pastel just as skilfully as he painted in oils, and it plays an important role in his oeuvre. The artist is best known for his Berlin street scenes, but Ury was not content with simply discovering picturesque views of the city. He also went out and captured the atmosphere of the Märkisch landscape in all its moods. Lesser Ury’s estate also contained a painting with a very similar composition entitled “Cows by the Stream”, which Dr. Groß dated to the 1890s.
