Description

The sitter is presumably Siddi, Heckel’s later wife Milda Frieda Georgi, who used the artist’s name Siddi Riha as a dancer. The drawing was created as a preliminary study for the large-format painting “Leidende Frau” (cf. WVZ Hüneke 1912/1). This was on loan to the Gdansk Museum until 1933 and was burnt in January 1944 when Heckel’s Berlin studio was destroyed during the war.
