Hildebrand, the sculptural counterpart to Hans von Marées, enhanced Munich like no other with his sculpted fountains at the turn of the century. The most famous are the Wittelsbacherbrunnen and the Hubertusbrunnen, with which Hildebrand found success as a sculptor in Munich around 1900. The artistic relevance of the urban planning assignment to create a fountain is also shown in the sheet offered here, in which Hildebrand prefers a clear, classicist and Mediterranean style, which, similar to Marées, is influenced by the Italian Renaissance, especially the works of Michelangelo. – Paper slightly soiled and with abrasions. Various defects to the margins. A horizontal crease across the sheet directly above the head of the putto, a further crease running from the right edge to his left thigh.
