Good, delicate and even impression with the shading of the white stripe on the forearm and wrist as well as before the reworking on the face and back. Trimmed just inside the plate edge. Drawings from Rembrandt’s circle in the Graphische Sammlung of the Albertina in Vienna prove that the master and his pupils also focussed on studying nudes. In addition to the male nude sitting on the floor, two further etchings were created in 1646 after the same model. Unlike his pupils, Rembrandt probably drew directly onto the plate. The nudes were presumably intended as models for drawing lessons. Bevers states that the French art writer d’Argenville reported in 1745 of a small textbook by Rembrandt with a good dozen pages, which has not survived. – Paper with barely perceptible, scattered foxmarks, slight thinning of the paper on the reverse at the right edge, otherwise in very good condition.
