Descrizione
Excellent, clearly drawn impression with a beautiful plate tone. This is one of around five copies after Rembrandt’s early etched portrait of his mother from around 1632, which speaks for the great popularity of the depiction at this time. The motif of this copy is depicted facing the opposite direction to Rembrandt’s original etching. The New Hollstein lists this copy as having been made by an artist from Rembrandt’s workshop. With a margin up to 4 mm wide around the plate edge. – Faint creasing in the upper margin, there with a small backed paper loss. A small closed tear in the upper right edge, former mounting strips on the reverse, otherwise in good condition.
